Paul started drumming at the age of 11, his early drumming experience was in brass bands; he started with Southampton Youth Brass Band in 1982 and more recently he was a member of the highly acclaimed Woodfalls Band as their kit player for over 10 years. Whilst playing for Woodfalls Band (with his wife Kate) he played at various prestigious venues such as Blackpool Winter Gardens, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and several times at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
Paul has always played other genres of music as well as brass band, including country, rock and folk. Since 1990 he has been playing with Turk Town Troopers; and was a member of the Bursledon Village Band between 1991 – 2001 playing with them at Cecil Sharp House, Whitby Folk Week and the following Folk Festivals: Chippenham; Sidmouth; Winchester and Wimborne.
Paul is happy to return to BVB as Rob Purkiss pursues a new musical career and he will attempt to keep Pete Theobald’s hand clapping under control. He is proud to say that the title of the best looking (and youngest) section of the band is still the percussion."
